The first three-day Times Square ‘Weekender’ Festival was staged in the centre of Newcastle in the UK and was closed with a rousing performance by local heroes Maximo Park, with an all Robe moving light rig supplied to the event by locally based R&M Productions.
Six trusses were sub-hung in the roof and 16 x Robe DLX4 LED Spots were rigged across these to provide key lighting and specials.
They were joined by 16 x Pointes, 12 x LEDBeam 100s and 14 x LEDWash 600s plus strobes and blinders from R&M, which has a stock of Robe and has been investing steadily in the brand for the last few years.
The top rig design was based on Friday night headliner Fatboy Slim’s plot by Abbiss, which also functioned as a practical and flexible option for all the other artists playing over the weekend which included indie favourites Ocean Colour Scene.
Maximo Park’s LD Olly Suckling brought in his famously eye-catching ‘M-A-X-I-M-O’ sign which is made up of Robe CycFX LED battens and was a feature of their last extensive tour.
This updated version of the sign – also supplied by R&M Productions on this occasion and for the tour – featured an additional CycFX 4 unit making up the bridge of the A, and joining the 28 x CycFX 8s in the design.
R&M’s Robbie Baxter commented, “It was really exciting to be involved in a completely new and original event, and it’s great to see the city centre being utilised for more music events which really unite the community.”
Newcastle is known for its vibrant and fun nightlife and as one of the friendliest cities in the UK.
R&M Productions also supplied a 10 metre wide by 5.6 metre high upstage LED video wall. Audio came from AS Audio and the stage from T2 Staging, both based in Darlington.
