Moscow based Light.Sound.Contractor has revolutionised the legendary Marika Club in the Russian capital with the installation of a new Robe Show Lighting moving light rig for the venue’s latest revamp.
The Marika, located in Petrovka Street, right at the core of the City’s historical downtown area, was the first nightclub to open a decade ago in post Glasnost Moscow. It’s since enjoyed a long and illustrious post-Soviet history attracting a wide range of clientele, VIPs and celebrities, and also gaining a reputation for being at the technical cutting edge!
The club has been remodeled, reinvented and reconstructed several times over the years, each time with the interiors and equipment changing. In 2003, the only original elements remaining are its location and its split-level concept, featuring club and dancefloor on the ground floor and restaurant facilities upstairs.
The music policy is a diverse mix. It’s different each night of the week, so a very flexible lighting design and rig was required. Light.Sound.Contractor looked at the brief and decided to specify Robe fixtures as the ideal solution.
The intimate dancefloor – measuring just 4 x 7 metres – now utilises 12 Robe Scan 250XTs, 8 DJ Scan 250s and 4 ColorMix 150 profile fixtures. The existing PC-based control system remains, and smoke effects are widely distributed throughout the club via a series of powerful fans.
The dancefloor also features the first RGB colour changing panels in Russia, and the interior decoration makes wide use of fibre optics.
The latest new-look Marika opened to the public in October 2003. It’s privately operated and only members are admitted.
